By The Welcome Baby Care Doulas

One of the great joys of this job is receiving photo updates from former clients. Beneath the confident smile of the mother and the healthy glow of the baby, we can see just a hint of good old doula influence. While you, the parents, do the REAL work, we appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the foundation.

When a picture comes in, we all flip out—even when we’re looking at another doula’s family. We’ll watch our colleague tear up, remember, and marvel at “how big.”  We get it.  We all have the late night memories of sprinkling our doula dust on the chaos, soothing crying babies and mamas alike. You have no idea how much it means to us to watch you go on independently, stronger and wiser.

So…ahem…Halloween is coming. The winter holidays too. Show us the costumes. Show us the chubby fingers reaching for first snow. Send them even if you have told us repeatedly, “Please no social media share for me!” Tell us again; we understand. It’s not all about Facebook. You really do matter to us, more than you know. We always stop to look at the pics. We’re doulas. We live for this.
