By Doula Marnie
I became a doula because I know how difficult motherhood can be! I understand the challenge and often, the loneliness…
As a mother of six children under the age of 8, I had an unsupportive spouse, a busy extended family who lived three hours away, and a mild case of the baby blues. I really could have used a smiling face, an extra pair of hands, and a positive word of encouragement!
I managed to muddle through without much support, my children grew, and I felt a growing desire to help other moms. I first became a birth doula and then moved to postpartum work.
The joy I feel when I can help new moms, dads, and babies adjust to life as a family is incredible. The work is amazingly rewarding.
